Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing star
in what was then their fifth Hammer
outing together. "The Gorgon"
takes its cue from the classic myth of the maiden
who sported snakes for hair and turned
all who gazed upon her into stone...
...In other words, perfect Hammer
fodder. And a female monster, to boot, which
certainly made a good twist. Likewise,
the roles of the film's two stars. Cushing's
Doctor Namaroff is a cold and calculating
man, whilst Lee's Professor Meister is
rather charming. The film itself is something
on a diamond in the rough, oft forgotten
by the public at large, but well-reviewed
and admired by Hammer
Which is great, because Peter once
again had a duel role on the production:

Peter
gets a front-end credit for his role as a "fight arranger".
But he also appears on screen, on and off,
throughout the movie
in an uncredited role, in the guise of a
Policeman. He
even
gets to speak a line:
"She's not there!"
Listen out for his declaration, around 55mins
in to the movie!
Oh, yes. He also gets shoved to the floor
by Christopher Lee, as
the chap flees from the strong arm of the
law...
...And we're pretty sure he's doubling for
one of the stars during the
end duel. There certainly seems to be a
wig-or-two flapping
around!
