John
Neville dons the famous deerstalker as Sherlock Holmes, stalking
the streets of Whitechapel in pursuit
of Jack the Ripper. Lots of
star names flesh out the whodunnit,
and although the real-life facts
may have been fudged, the spirit of Olde
London is most adeptly
captured. So too, is the culprit,
unlike his real-life counterpart.
"A Study in Terror" comes
highly reccomended by fans of the detective.
Neville makes a damned good Holmes, and Donald Houston serves him
equally well as Watson. It's a shame this
didn't lead to more sleuthing
for the duo...
As was so often the custom, Peter
wasn't credited for his fight work,
or for his walk-on role.

Peter's
big appearance is fab. He staggers in to the film on 47min mark,
playing
one of a pair of leering sailors, trying it on with a Whitechapel gal.
And they share a bit of banter with her
too:
"Wotcha!"
"Cor! - Sailor's Rest!"
"We've walked a mile for that!"
"Workin' up an appetite!"
"All the girls are indoors - scared
to come out, they are!"
"They must 'ave known we woz in port!"
"Don't you worry, 'cos Jack an' me,
we're gonna look after you, aren't we Jack?"
"'Ere! - Don't fight over it
lads!"
But their fun is cut short by a frowning
Copper, who sends them
swiftly on their way...
The gal is less fortunate, though. She's
killed by the Ripper in the
very next scene!
