Dark
deeds are afoot in a Cornish village as Sir James Forbes and his daughter
investigate a host of mysterious deaths.
It turns out the local Squire is transforming
the villagers into zombies and enslaving
them within his mine!
This fabulously eerie Hammer film
may lack the star names, but it's still a treat. Andre
Morell plays Sir James Forbes with
complete conviction and there's great menace
and atmospehere in the film's early
stages. Oh okay, so it all goes pear-shaped
when we finally enter the mine and
reveal the fate of the villagers, lumbering around
ineffectually with flimsy zombie make-up.
But who cares. It's a journey well
well worth taking...

Peter
appears as a zombie in the much celebrated graveyard nightmare,
1hr into the film. You can see him lumbering
around a gravestone and closing
in on the local practitioner (Brook
Williams).
Presumably, he's also present during the
film's climax, as the zombies
catch fire in the mine. But we've not spied
him yet!...
