Peter
was originally approached to work on this film at a very early stage in
its
development. At the time, 'Desperado' director
Robert Rodriguez was at the helm
and they met several times as Robert's vision
developed. In the end, Robert moved
on to other projects and Martin Campbell
stepped up to the plate, flushed with the
success of his Bond film 'Goldeneye'.
In its new guise, 'The Mask Of Zorro' had
Peter's friend and colleague Bob Anderson
in charge of the swordplay. Peter
and Bob had worked together on numerous projects
through the years, with one employing
the other, or recommending work on. But Peter
stayed on the film a while longer, and
spent several weeks at the London residence of
Sir Anthony Hopkins, where he taught him
some basic sword skills. And apparently they
got on rather well; Mr. Hopkins being a
down-to-earth Welshman at heart, and Peter
being a down-to-earth Maccam!
By the way, Peter was previously the
stunt arranger on New World's 'Zorro' tv series,
which starred Duncan Regehr and Patric
Camhi. He also directed several episodes and
appeared as Zorro's fencing master,
Sir Edmond Kendall.
